It takes a village to raise a child.

It also takes a village to make a mom. A confident, supported mom.

In recent years, between social media, the internet, AI, diaper marketing campaigns, and more, modern motherhood has lost its village.

oPPal is here to help you find yours.

oPPal is a peer-based support platform facilitating postpartum care and connection. We match new moms with experienced moms who’ve been there. Through regular check-ins, Big oPPals empower their Little oPPals, reminding them to prioritize themselves and offering the words of encouragement they need to keep going.

This is not a clinical intervention — it’s authentic human connection, the galaxy’s greatest power.

Meet Melanie

oPPal started with one woman’s experience.

Melanie and her family

After the birth of her first daughter in 2022, Melanie experienced postpartum depression and anxiety — something she hadn't expected, even having worked through mental health challenges earlier in her life. At four months postpartum, things reached a crisis point that required her to temporarily separate from her family to recover.

Through recovery work that centered on self-care, community, and consistent support, Melanie emerged with a radically different experience of her second postpartum period following her daughter Jade's birth in 2025.

That contrast — from isolation and crisis to connection and confidence — became her mission. oPPal was born from the belief that no mother should navigate postpartum alone, and that the best person to support a new mom is another mom who has been there.

Melanie’s Vision

Decades ago, before the internet, before social media, there wasn’t much information out there for new moms. A few books. A couple of brands of diapers at the local store. And decades before that there wasn’t much besides the women in your life. And that’s how it was for thousands of years.

We live in an age of abundance. There are endless voices out there telling you how to be a mom — the right way to navigate sleep, or the best new device to make your baby the happiest baby ever and you, the most put-together mom ever. And yet, postpartum still sucks.

Because none of that noise replaces something we’ve lost — a woman’s intuition.

There is no singular, absolute right answer to parenting — just different methods and preferences. Your intuition is the core component of being a mom that holds true across cultures, across generations, and across nature. It used to be the case that a mom had nothing more to help her than the other women around her who had stood in her shoes — the moms who had been through it.

At oPPal we believe the thing that matters most to a mom emerging through postpartum is trusting herself.

Trust that she has a support network. Trust that she is doing the best she can.

oPPal exists to empower new moms — our Little oPPals — to be their own advocates. I want to live in a world where no woman is left wondering with her newborn why no one prepared her for this. Where instead of feeling isolated and alone, she feels seen and understood. I want to live in a world where every woman has a lifeline. I want to make a world of oPPals.

We are going to make that reality together. With every match, and with every thoughtful check-in, with every act of compassion, we will get there, one mom at a time.
